Optometrist Specialized in Low Vision
20 November 2023Training in the Use of Low Vision Aids
20 November 2023Only in cases where the patient cannot read with the special microscope-glasses, either because the vision is below 1/20 or because there are other health problems, e.g. Parkinson’s disease or loss one hand, etc., reading can be done through an electronic magnifier (closed circuit television).
There are desktop electronic readers with screens up to 23 inches, but also portable ones with screens up to 10 inches.
These low vision aids have the ability to enlarge a text up to 60 times, but also to display the letters on a black background on the screen, thus helping contrast (white letters – black background). When the magnifiers are in color the patient can see with clarity in addition to letters and photographs.
